Barry Sonnenfeld Talks Men in Black 3

barry sonnenfeld men black 3 ending reboot

Buzz around the upcoming Men in Black III has improved in recent months ? thanks to the release of an overall decent full-length trailer, coupled with the promise of both new inspired celebrity ?alien? cameos and imaginative extraterrestrials designed by makeup/effects icon, Rick Baker. Hence, there?s been more reason to suspect that MIB 3 could both rake in lots of dough and?leave moviegoers wanting? well, Men in Black IV, basically.

In a recent promotional interview for the sci-fi comic book movie threequel, MIB franchise director Barry Sonnenfeld addressed many a topic of interest concerning Men in Black III ? including, the much-publicized tumultuous development process for the film (which he describes as the most ?emotional? of the trilogy) and how MIB 3 serves as a fitting finale for the series? while also leaving the door open for a (dare we say it) reboot.

Here is Sonnenfeld revealing the history behind the time-travel storyline for Men in Black III (via MTV):

?I think the important thing is to have a new, different story to tell. We didn?t want another regular caper where some alien just comes down to threaten Earth, and the Men in Black have to solve it. The big idea ? and it was actually Will?s idea, while we were shooting ?Men in Black 2? one night for an exterior shot. He said to me, ?Barry, for ?Men in Black 3,? Agent J needs to go back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones? [character] from some event that?s happened decades earlier. He needs to learn something about Tommy?s character that he didn?t know before.? That was the genesis. Ten years later, we?re about to come out and show the world what that meant.?

Sonnenfeld goes on to offer a?description (with MILD SPOILERS) of the first act in Men in Black III ? the end result of which is Agent J heading back to 1969, where he meets up with a younger Agent K (Josh Brolin) ? which you can read by checking out the full MTV article. However, he sums it up with the following statement about the ending.

?? The second and third act is all about tracking down [the villain Boris, played by Jemaine Clement] and [J] renewing his friendship with a different K than the K he knows from 40 years in the future. What?s really cool is that J is constantly wondering why this guy who seems sort of open and happy became the sort of curmudgeon that has been his partner for the last 14 years. He makes a discovery about that. So, ?Men in Black 3? is by far the most emotional of the movies. It has a really surprising ending.?

It?s interesting?(if not entirely encouraging)?to learn that the third MIB flick was actually envisioned as a timeline-disrupting adventure from the get-go, considering how such story elements tend to be incorporated into franchises only by the time they?re either in need of a shakeup (Star Trek) or have seemingly run out of gas otherwise (Shrek). Still, the promise that MIB 3 will offer some closure for longtime fans of the series ? that?s certainly welcome.

With regards to the documented strenuous task that was bringing Men in Black III to cinematic life, Sonnenfeld said:

?First of all, I don?t know that I?ve ever been on a shoot that?wasn?t?stressful for the director. I think all movies are stressful in different ways. What was reported on this one was that we took a several-months hiatus to work on the script. As it relates to that, that concept was built into the shooting schedule. We wanted the next movie Will Smith was in after a long time where he wasn?t in movies to be ?Men in Black 3.? We also wanted to shoot in New York, which had a tax incentive that was about to expire. It?didn?t?expire, but we didn?t know it wasn?t going to expire, because New York state legislature had to vote it in again, and we weren?t sure that was going to happen. So we started the movie with a full script and with a really great first act ? but the second and third needed work. We built in a two-month hiatus so we could continue working on the script and not need an eight-week reshoot. So that?s what we did. The truth is, the great thing about the movie, is that there was no stress between myself and any of the actors. We all got along very well. You don?t ever want a director and a movie star who see two different movies. But we all were working with the same ideas in mind. We knew the characters, we knew the history, and we were very much in sync.?

That?s a somewhat more diplomatic (and wordy) response than Sonnenfeld?s previous comments on the MIB 3 production process ? wherein he admitted that the approach could either be ?genius? [or] a really stupid idea,? depending on how the final product turns out. Seeing how the director is coming off what many people feel was a weak second installment in the MIB series, the idea that Sonnenfeld and his crew would intentionally take such a roundabout approach to making Part 3 does raises some concern.

On the other hand, it?s a well-established rule in Hollywood that some of the best movies are those that result from pretty hectic (if not downright crazy) production processes -?so MIB 3 certainly has that?working in its favor.

men black 3 will smith josh brolin

In summation, it?s best to keep all that in mind while you read Sonnenfeld?s concluding assurance that Men in Black III?aims to pull double-duty as a fitting trilogy finale and?a rebirth of the series:

?The fantastic thing about ?Men in Black 3? is that it totally closes out the trilogy, it answers questions that you didn?t even know you should be asking, it leaves you emotionally warm and sad and happy,?and?it could also reboot the franchise. But I can?t even begin to tell you how to interpret all of that. [Laughs] But I would say this: If your interpretation is that ?Men in Black 4? will only star the worm guys and Frank the pug, you are wrong.?

We will find out for certain if the Men in Black will go on to fight another day ? or finally head into retirement ? when Men in Black III opens in theaters (2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D) around the U.S. on May 25th, 2012.

After 4-month surge, gas prices start falling

(AP) ? The worst appears to be over. Gasoline prices are going down.

After a four-month surge pushed gasoline to nearly $4 per gallon in early April, drivers, politicians and economists worried that prices might soar past all-time highs, denting wallets, angering voters and dragging down an economy that is struggling to grow.

Instead, pump prices have dropped 6 cents over two weeks to a national average on Friday of $3.88. Experts say gasoline could fall another nickel or more next week.

Drivers might also get to say something they haven’t since October 2009 ? they’re paying less at the pump than they did a year ago.

“It’s nice, much more manageable,” said Mark Timko, who paid less than $4 per gallon Wednesday in the Chicago suburb of Burr Ridge, Ill., for the first time since March. “I wasn’t sure how high they were going to go this year.”

Gasoline prices are lower than they were a year ago in 11 states, according to the Oil Price Information Service. At $3.88, the national average is still high, but it’s down from a peak of $3.94. Predictions of $5 gasoline earlier this year have ? mercifully ? evaporated.

Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service, expects gasoline prices to drop to just above $3.80 by late next week. Stuart Hoffman, chief economist at PNC Financial Services Group, said the falling prices will put more money into the economy for Americans to spend elsewhere.

A 10-cent drop in gasoline prices would mean drivers would have an extra $37 million per day to spend on other things.

Gasoline prices have been pushed high by crude prices that have averaged $104 per barrel this year. World oil demand is expected to set a record this year and a series of production outages around the world have kept supplies low.

Oil rose to $110 as the West tightened sanctions on Iran in an effort to make it harder for that country to sell oil and pressure it to abandon its nuclear ambitions. Fears that retaliation by Iran could disrupt Middle Eastern supplies pushed oil prices up by as much as $15 per barrel, experts say.

Closer to home, there were concerns about restricted supplies of gasoline on the East Coast after three refineries closed and two more were set to be shuttered. Gasoline futures prices, which are quickly reflected in pump prices, rose to their highest levels in nearly a year.

But several factors have contributed to the lower prices at the pump:

? Oil prices have fallen in recent weeks. Iran and the West are negotiating, the growth in demand for oil has moderated, and world oil supplies are rising again thanks to more production from Saudi Arabia, Libya and the United States. Oil has fallen to $103.05 per barrel, down from a peak of $110.55 on March 1.

? Potential buyers for the two East Coast refineries have emerged, so they are now expected to stay open.

? U.S. drivers have gotten frugal at the gas pump. Gasoline demand has dropped by about 6 percent, compared with the same period last year, according to the latest government data.

In response, gasoline futures have since dropped by 8 percent. That’s expected to cut the price of wholesale gasoline, and those savings will be passed on at the pump.

Prices are not expected to plummet. Even if the Iran situation were totally resolved ? an unlikely event ? analysts say oil would not fall much below $90 per barrel.

And there’s a possibility prices could still reverse themselves. Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, inflamed Middle East tensions or fighting in a major oil-producing country like Iran or Nigeria could reduce supplies. A surge in world economic growth could increase demand.

Gasoline prices rise nearly every spring, and often peak in May.

This year, they’re falling a little earlier, and motorists are already making summer vacation plans.

Timko was going to take the train to Washington. D.C., this June with his wife. With gas prices down by about 40 cents per gallon ? and more importantly below $4 ? in their neighborhood, they’ve decided to drive instead.

“Under $4 makes a big difference,” he said. “Just from a perception standpoint.”

G20 doubles IMF’s war chest amid fears on Europe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Leading world economies on Friday pledged $430 billion in new funding for the International Monetary Fund, more than doubling its lending power in a bid to protect the global economy from the euro-zone debt crisis.

The promised funds from the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies aim to ensure the IMF can respond decisively should the debt problems that have engulfed three euro zone countries spread and threaten a fragile global recovery.

“This is extremely important, necessary, an expression of collective resolve,” IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said. “Given the increase that has just taken place, we are north of a trillion dollars actually. So I was a bit mesmerized by the amount.”

The $1 trillion figure includes both the IMF’s existing and newly won resources, as well as loans already committed.

The IMF would be able to use its increased firepower to help any country or region in need. But Europe‘s crisis was the driving force behind the push for more funds, though officials and investors alike said it merely buys time for Europe to undertake more economic reforms.

Greece, Ireland and Portugal have already received bailouts. Investors now are worried that Italy and Spain, the euro zone’s third and fourth biggest economies, will fail to bring down their debt burdens quickly enough to satisfy financial markets and be forced to follow the same path.

The IMF traditionally has provided aid to struggling emerging market nations, but the euro zone debt crisis has made big industrial economies a new focus. And emerging economies, which have been pressing for a greater say at the IMF, joined in pledging additional funds.

GRAVEST ECONOMIC THREAET

Worries about the debt crisis have dominated talks among finance officials in Washington this week for the semi-annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, with Spain facing special scrutiny.

The IMF has warned the crisis presents the gravest risk to global economic expansion, though the G20 said in its statement that the threat of a major blowup has started to recede. The IMF estimated in January it would need $600 billion in fresh funds, but Lagarde lowered that figure to $400 billion, saying actions Europe had taken to quell the crisis had cut the risk.

In foreign currency markets, investors welcomed the G20 move, giving a boost to the euro, which has enjoyed its best week since February.

But in a sign investors lack confidence that a big IMF war chest can draw a line under the region’s problems, both Spanish and Italian bonds faced pressure on Friday. The yield on Spain’s 10-year bond topped 6 percent before retreating..

David Keeble, global head of interest rate strategy at Credit Agricole Corp., said the expansion of the IMF’s coffers was only a start in resolving the euro zone crisis.

“The $430 billion is a nice enough size. I’m guessing that they’ll get a few billion more, although the market will no doubt come to the conclusion that no number is big enough,” he said.

Indeed, IMF officials said the new funds would only buy time for Europe to continue difficult economic reforms. Tensions over whether European countries are sufficiently committed to making deep and painful cuts to their budget deficits or whether European Union policymakers have dug deeply enough into their own pockets have plagued G20 talks over financial resources.

Lagarde defended Europe’s actions to date, saying its package of fiscal, financial and monetary measures taken in recent months were “sufficient.” However, the head of the IMF’s steering committee, the Singapore finance minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, was more cautious.

“Whether Europe has done enough to build up its firewall depends really on its reforms,” he said, speaking alongside Lagarde. “If its reforms lose credibility, if its reforms lose momentum, then quite frankly the firewall is not enough. So it depends entirely on the commitment to reform.”

Not all G20 members were committing new funds.

The United States has said it has already done enough by providing dollar liquidity for European banks and Canada has said Europe needs to do more to erect a financial firewall, although it did not close the door completely.

“Circumstances could change,” Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said.

EMERGING MARKETS

Emerging markets won assurances from their G20 partners that their growing economic clout would be rewarded over time with greater voting power in the IMF, known as quotas – an issue that was central to winning their support.

“We conditioned the money to the completion of the IMF’s quota reform so that emerging countries have larger representation – that was accepted,” Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega said after the G20 meeting.

While the BRICS group of leading emerging nations – which also includes Russia, India, China and South Africa – have agreed to provide more money, the exact amount each country will chip in was not announced. The issue now goes to the G20 leaders’ summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, in June.

The BRICS countries are especially frustrated that the United States is stalling over implementing a 2010 voting reform deal, which would reduce Europe’s dominance on the IMF board and give China the No. 3 position. Danish Finance Minister Margrethe Vestage said the European Union would go ahead and give up two IMF board seats later this year as planned.

The G20 communiqu? reaffirmed members would redistribute IMF power by the October meeting, and stick to plans to revisit voting shares next year. This action would recognize that the world economy has changed substantially in view of strong growth in dynamic emerging markets, the communiqu? said, meaning that emerging economies should have greater clout at the IMF.

Exercise challenge ? headstand | Health & Fitness

Part of what we enjoy about our exercise challenges, is that they snap you out of your regular routine and get you thinking about developing your dexterity, agility, balance and flexibility. It?s great to be fit, but when you add co-ordination to it, it?s a game changer. Suddenly you move with poise, confidence and a natural flow. Opening up your body so that your movements and energy are more fluid is something that we are going to be working on in our new challenges.

Today we are starting with the headstand. What better way to get you out of your old patterns then to turn your world upside down? :) Don?t get scared, there is a posture for absolute beginners if you have never tried this before.

Before we get going we wanted to go over some of the benefits of this posture.

1. The headstand builds strength in the neck, wrists, shoulders and activates the muscles in the core. It also has spine strengthening benefits.
2. It allows de-oxygenated blood to flow more easily from the far reaches of your body back to the heart.
3. It allows our blood to move more readily into the upper lungs making for more efficient oxygen-blood exchange.
4. It is amazing for improving body balance.
5.You may experience heightened clarity and a greater sense of emotional calm. Some Yogis believe that practicing the headstand helps to keep us emotionally stable, balanced and centred.

This last point is perhaps the most interesting, because it picks up on the theme we discussed in our last post ? that training can help you find peace and balance in all areas of your life. This is never just about the physical :)

As with everything, this and every other skill requires determined practice. The first time that I saw someone doing a headstand I was blown away and thought that this would never be possible for me (fear based thinking is so often our default isn?t it?). It is important to realize that we are capable of so much more when we face our fears of the unknown and realize that for the most part they are just empty thoughts. Yes this is not easy, and yes it requires ongoing practice, but the truth is that very little in life is ever truly impossible :) Enjoy your challenge!

Best,
Zuzana & Freddy

Starting position.

Bring your hips up and extend your legs. This is the posture for beginners. Practice this until you develop

enough strength in your arms and balance to move on to the next step.

Take your feet off of the ground, bend your knees and keep your back straight. This is the intermediate posture.

You can start by practicing this posture with your back against the wall.

Extend your legs up keeping your toes pointed. Every muscle in your body will be working to keep this posture.

This is the advanced and final step.

Adele, Rihanna Make Time’s 100 Most Influential People List

List features power players from politics, sports and entertainment, including President Obama, Tim Tebow and Kristen Wiig.

Every year, Time magazine rounds up the 100 most impactful people of the past 12 months, and this year’s 100 Most Influential People in the World list is eclectic and all-encompassing, featuring A-listers from politics, sports and, of course, entertainment.

The list rounds up the 100 Most Influential People who “inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world,” according to Time. In addition to getting a slot on the list, the honorees also get a blurb written about them by an admiring celebrity. Athletes including Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin made the cut, as well as politicians President Obama, Hillary Clinton and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Entertainers on the list include comedians Louis C.K. and Chelsea Handler, as well as “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig. “Her first screenplay — insightful, brave, groundbreaking and also hilarious,” Judd Apatow noted about her work on the Oscar-nominated “Bridesmaids.” He added that her work as a funny lady was never a comment on gender, writing, “She never thought she was making a statement about women in comedy.”

Rihanna also made the list, with fashion designer Stella McCartney writing, “She’s one of the coolest, hottest, most talented, most liked, most listened to, most followed, most impressive artists at work today, but she does it in her own stride.”

Pink honored Adele in the issue, noting, “Her success renews hope in me that the world I live in has good taste — that we still occasionally come back to what’s simple, and simply amazing.”

Other A-listers recognized by the magazine include actresses Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain, Tilda Swinton and Claire Danes and super-producer Harvey Weinstein.

Lindsay Lohan Still Has Liz Taylor Role

Lindsay Lohan will reportedly still star as Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming biopic Liz & Dick despite the assault investigation that’s hanging over her head.

Yes, the actress has caught a break. For once.

LiLo’s recent behavior, or alleged recent behavior, is NOT looking like a threat to her future projects … partly because she’s done nothing illegal. Yet.

Lindsay Lohan Coachella Photo

Even after Lindsay’s whole alleged assault of some chick at a hotel bar and her partying at Coachella, the film’s producers are standing by her side.

Steve Honig, Lohan’s rep, says: “Producers have assured us everything is on track and there are absolutely no problems. Lindsay is going to star.”

Pretty much what we expected … but you never know.

Hopefully LiLo stays on track and doesn’t do anything that could possibly throw a wrench into the role of a lifetime … or at least a role ON Lifetime.

What do you think? Can she stay clean?
